- Through a competitive selection of Andoni-targeted applicants, 40 students emerged as the first set of recipients of the ‘Green Energy Leaders of Tomorrow’ scholarship award scheme. Awards were presented by GEIL Chairman, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, in December 2018, at a milestone event tagged an ‘Interactive Luncheon with Stakeholders’ in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
- 30 of the 40 awards went to undergraduates and 10 postgraduates in various Nigerian universities; recipients spanned 18 Andoni communities, our hosts included. We aim in future to award more state-wide scholarships.
- The preponderant areas of study or courses covered by the university awards underscores GEIL’s particular emphasis on arming our host community youth with training in technological, scientific, engineering, digital and industrial development professions – skills sets that would be in highest demand in the global labour market, as the world settles into the 4th Industrial-Revolution era, with its ‘disruptive’ capabilities and innovations.
- The specific (priority) areas or disciplines in the Green Energy Leaders of Tomorrow award are: Mechanical/Petroleum/Material and Metallurgical and Electrical/Civil Engineering; Medicine, Pharmacy, Radiography, Accountancy, Animal and Environmental Biology, Food Science Technology, Human Anatomy; and Law.
