OAU honors GeIL chairman with Award of excellence in research practice
The Chairman, Green Energy International Limited (GEIL), operator of Otakikpo Marginal Field, Prof. Antony Adegbulugbe has been recognised by the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, for the university’s ‘award of excellence in research practice.’
The prestigious award is only given to an alumnus of the University with an outstanding record of knowledge-based accomplishment at global and national level, which Adegbulugbe is known for.
Commenting on the award, the outstanding Professor of Electrical/Electronics Engineering expressed his joy at the University’s recognition. He said that “I am honored by this award, and to be recognised by my alumni is such a good feeling. I give all Glory to God.”
Adegbulugbe will mentor the best students across all departments of the university and also serve as the face of academic and research excellence for the institution.
He studied Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University and he graduated with BSc. (Hon) in June 1976. He bagged a Doctor of Science degree in Engineering in June 1981 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. He is a recipient of the Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) of the Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) in 2019.
Adegbulugbe has been a contributor to various panels across the globe including Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) Assessment Reports which won the Nobel Peace Prize for the IPCC in 2007.
Over the years, Adegbulugbe has served and chaired several advisory committees seeking to better improve the efficiency in oil and gas sector in Nigeria and internationally. He has won several awards in the past, including the Excellent Leadership Award by the Citizenship & Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), “African Man of Year in oil and gas” for the year 2022 at the International African Energy, Oil and Gas Summit held in Angola in October 2022 among others.
